Known for challenging conventional approaches to healthcare and benefits, Michael is driven by one core objective: finding smarter, more sustainable ways to help people protect what matters most while navigating an increasingly complex healthcare system. Originally from New Jersey, Michael now calls the Upstate home, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Outside of work, his family keeps him grounded and motivated as he continues pushing for meaningful improvements in how healthcare and benefits are delivered. Michael’s philosophy is captured by his favorite quote from Jim Rohn: “Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.”

Josh Hyman joined Southern Benefit Systems in January 2018, bringing a diverse professional background that includes education, coaching, nonprofit leadership, and real estate. As CEO, Josh is responsible for setting the strategic vision and direction of the company, fostering innovation, and empowering the SBS team to deliver exceptional service and value to clients. Passionate about helping others succeed, Josh finds his greatest professional fulfillment in seeing SBS producers and team members achieve meaningful growth and win new opportunities. His leadership philosophy centers on relationships, continuous improvement, and creating solutions that help clients navigate an ever-changing employee benefits landscape. A native of Woodruff, South Carolina, Josh earned a degree in Mathematics from Wofford College. He resides in the Upstate with his wife and children. Outside of the office, Josh enjoys spending time with family and can often be found on the golf course.

Nathan joined SBS in July 2023 after years in public education as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He helps with daily operations, prospecting, sales, plan design, renewals, and client services. His driving passion: helping SBS team members, carrier reps, clients, and prospects achieve their goals, especially when it involves their health and money. A Woodruff native with an Educational Doctorate in Leadership, Nathan lives with his wife and children. He loves golf, water activities, and evening fires.

David joined SBS in 2023 after years in healthcare, mental health, and insurance. He advises employers on designing and managing benefit programs while networking to expand opportunities. What lights him up? Building long-term strategies that strengthen organizations while delivering people-centered benefits that genuinely care for employees. David holds degrees in Health Science and Counseling Psychology, plus his insurance producer license. He lives in South Carolina with his wife and children, surfing, staying active outdoors, and finding ways to support his community.

With 27 years in the insurance industry, Charles joined SBS in April 2024. He oversees the sales team through assisting the team with prospecting, sales, plan design, strategy, renewals, and ongoing client services with one driving force: serving.  Serving his team and his clients. A Spartanburg native with a degree in accounting, Charles now lives in Travelers Rest with his wife, Marie.  Serving at church, squeezing in golf when time allows, and traveling with his wife are what occupy his time when not working.

Abby Schilz brings a thoughtful, client-first approach to her work in employee benefits, grounded in experience across both wealth management and employer-sponsored plans. She began her career with Willis Towers Watson in Milwaukee, where she developed a strong foundation in benefits consulting and risk management. Originally from Wisconsin, Abby attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison before relocating to Greenville, South Carolina in 2020. She quickly embraced the Upstate lifestyle, enjoying the region’s warm climate and easy access to both the mountains and the coast. In 2022, Abby expanded her perspective by transitioning into wealth management, gaining deeper insight into financial planning and the broader impact of benefits on individuals’ financial well-being. In early 2026, she was introduced to Southern Benefit Systems, where she returned to the employer benefits space with a renewed focus on helping organizations design smarter, more effective strategies for their people.

As a former South Carolina State Trooper, Brett Finley has always been driven by a deep passion for serving others. Transitioning from public service to the insurance industry, Brett now champions businesses and their employees by ensuring access to meaningful, affordable coverage. Known for his unwavering integrity and client-first approach, he helps organizations navigate the complex world of benefits without sacrificing financial stability. Brett’s journey from protecting communities on the highway to protecting businesses in the boardroom reflects his lifelong mission: to stand in the gap for others. With a dynamic style that blends real-world experience, practical strategies, and an authentic heart for people, Brett inspires audiences to lead with purpose, resilience, and service.

Danny joined Southern Benefit Systems in August 2026, bringing a diverse professional background built on sales, recruiting, and relationship development. Originally born in Havana, Cuba, and raised in Miami, Florida, Danny learned early the value of hard work, perseverance, and connecting with people from all walks of life. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Montreat College, where he also competed as a collegiate baseball player. Throughout his career, Danny has focused on helping people and organizations succeed. After spending the majority of his professional career in sales, he most recently worked in recruiting, building meaningful relationships and connecting individuals with opportunities to grow and thrive. His passion for serving others and creating lasting connections naturally led him to the employee benefits industry. Today, Danny is proud to call Spartanburg home, where he lives with his wife and daughter. He loves golf, church, and spending time with family.

Izaak has spent more than 10 years helping employers navigate the complexities of group benefits. Before joining SBS, he worked with benefits organizations such as Benefitfocus, HealthJoy, and Alight, where he helped employers simplify healthcare, uncover cost-savings opportunities, and empower employees to become better healthcare consumers. Helping people has always been the core fuel of Izaak’s work. He joined SBS to make a meaningful impact on the lives of American people and their families. The group benefits SBS manages support people through some of life’s most important moments—both the best of times and the most challenging—and being part of that support is what drives him every day. Outside of work, Izaak enjoys traveling, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Jordan joined SBS in June 2026 after spending more than 20 years in the restaurant and food production industry, selling beef to major retailers across the country. While he enjoyed the business, Jordan’s greatest passion has always been people. That passion led him to earn his Life and Health Insurance License in 2025 and begin a journey of learning Medicare, life insurance, annuities, and ancillary products while searching for the right team to serve alongside. Known for never meeting a stranger, Jordan enjoys building relationships and finding common ground with people from all walks of life. He believes that genuine connections naturally lead to opportunities to serve others and create value together. Outside of work, Jordan enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, great food, great music, and all things sports.

Trey Elder is passionate about the power of connection—with God and with others. As a former athlete and coach, Trey sees that success is more enjoyable while working with others toward a common goal. Through listening and taking a genuine interest in the stories of companies and their people, Trey approaches developing an employee benefits package alongside business leaders built on mutual trust and respect while implementing long term strategies that align with their vision. Trey believes that many times we are one conversation or one connection away from possibilities that we never knew existed. Outside of work, Trey and his wife are worship leaders at their church. Trey enjoys spending time with his two beautiful daughters, a spontaneous trip with his wife, dreaming about big ideas, and learning more about Jesus daily.

Zach came to SBS in September 2021 after working as a teacher assistant and coach. He focuses on prospecting, sales, plan design, renewals, and client services. His mission each day: help clients and prospects understand and properly use their benefits so they save time and money. A Greer, South Carolina native with a degree in Sports Management, Zach lives with his wife and they’re expecting their first child. He’s passionate about golf, the South Carolina Gamecocks, all things sports, and quality time with family.

Ann brought her construction project management background to SBS in June 2018. She manages client accounts and delivers customer service to both clients and their employees, assisting producers and meeting needs as they arise. What she loves most? Making a client’s job easier when it comes to benefit management. Originally from Michigan, Ann holds her insurance producer license and lives with her spouse and family. She’s happiest outdoors or working on crafts when the weather won’t cooperate.

Since joining SBS in 2016, Susan has operated on a simple philosophy: Assisting honestly with personal attention and care. With a background in Supply Chain Management and a Lean Six Sigma certification, Susan has the right tools and attitude to manage the mess the SBS way. Impeccable follow-through is how she keeps trust high with every client she serves. Away from work, she’s getting in the dirt with DIY projects or traveling to National Parks with family. Nothing is better than looking after grandbabies!

Diana Jenkins brings a detail-oriented and client-focused approach to her role at Southern Benefit Systems. As an Account Manager, Diana works closely with her clients to support them every step of the way, making sure they feel confident, supported, and taken care of. With a strong eye for detail, Diana excels at simplifying complex information and turning it into something clear and easy to navigate. She takes pride in helping her clients feel informed and confident in their decisions by breaking things down in a practical, straightforward way. Diana is committed to being a reliable resource and trusted partner, always making sure her clients feel supported throughout the process. Known for her responsiveness and consistency, she strives to be someone her clients can count on. Originally from the Philippines and raised in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Diana now calls the Dallas–Fort Worth area home. Outside of work, she enjoys serving on her church’s social media and worship team, spending time with family, and exploring creative hobbies such as photography and crafts. She is also currently getting into running and enjoys staying active.

Kristina started with SBS in 2025, bringing insurance experience to her role managing enrollments, changes, and terminations. She genuinely loves the work, especially completing enrollments and supporting her team. At home in South Carolina with her husband and daughter, Kristina unwinds with a good book and an impressive nail polish collection.

Payton joined SBS in 2020 and works with clients on enrollments, terminations, changes and claims. She enjoys helping others and being a part of a team. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her kids, and getting outside to explore nature trails.

Jesse is passionate about helping clients navigate their employee benefits with confidence while finding solutions to challenges along the way. Originally from Washington State, she enjoys spending time outdoors, whether camping, relaxing by the water, gardening, or preserving the harvest from her garden. Above all, she values spending time with her husband, their two daughters, and their dog, Red.

Sam brought her sunshine and positive, upbeat energy to SBS in 2026. She began her career as a teacher, where she developed a strong foundation in organization, adaptability, and people-focused support. She later spent five years in recruiting, building meaningful relationships and connecting talented individuals with opportunities that aligned with their goals. Through this experience, she honed her ability to manage competing priorities, communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, and anticipate needs before they arise. Today, as an Executive Assistant, Sam combines her meticulous attention to detail, proactive mindset, and passion for helping others to create seamless operations and support organizational success. Originally from Florida and now proud to call South Carolina home, Sam values meaningful connections, making a positive impact, and finding solutions that help people succeed. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, spending time with her dogs, singing karaoke and embracing life with the same energy and dedication she brings to her career.

John founded SBS in 2009 after working as a carrier rep and with an independent insurance firm. These days, his official title is Chairman Emeritus, which he translates as “stay out of Michael’s way.” What brings him the most satisfaction? Watching new producers and account managers thrive. A central Florida native, John studied at Florida State and Cornell, and now spends his time with his wife and family, climbing, and building things.
